about

The chorus riff to "Monochrome" was an idea Bronson had toyed with as a song idea prior to writing with Chase. The intro, verse and pre-chorus were later written to complete the most well-produced track on the album.

Monochrome features Dennis, the constant movement of bass lines that dis a driving force, with the guitars layered to bring out more of a melody and counter-melody.

Malcolm delivers on all levels - with a raspy low crawl of the song's verses. As the song builds so does his matching of its intensity.

When the rhythm guitars were tracked - the band opted instead to empty out the verses of guitars and have Dennis play the main riff, most of the time only accompanied by Chase on drums. It was decided that the guitars would build the song up in the pre-chorus and strip it down in the verses - the approach worked with brilliance.

Monochrome crushes with leads galore, with Bronson skipping across the intro riff that reoccurs at the midpoint of the track. This is followed up by Ryan's great choice of notes and using the chorus riff to build a great lead section. The third chorus section repeats but with harmonized guitar parts that segue into the outro.

Alongside Cicada, Monochrome and Her Taste of Sin, this is the band's songwriting at its strongest, employing all the resources at their disposal being used to compliment the song.
